Descriptions
Description:
These are Army, gun fired, fin-stabilized high-explosive antitank with tracer projectiles. The projectile incorporates a setback-armed, point-initiating base-detonating (PIBD) fuze containing a piezoelectric (Lucky) crystal and an electric detonator. The M509-series fuzes are impact fired.

Method of Operation:
The M456 and M456E1 projectiles have two-piece bodies, whereas, the other models have one-piece bodies.

Markings:
The projectiles are painted black or olive drab. The M456 and M456E1 markings are yellow. The M456A1 marking is yellow and white with yellow bands on the spike. The M456A1E2, M456A2, and M622 markings are white.
